UPDATE ON Brandon Raub’s Arrest
After an hour long hearing, Judge W. Allan Sharrett ruled that the involuntary commitment of Brandon Raub to a mental care facility was invalid and ordered that Raub be released because there was no grounds to file a petition to hold him in the first place. However, this doesn’t really challenge the practices and standards of the Secret Service, FBI and local law enforcement who basically kidnapped a sovereign citizen.
We need to refine our procedures for addressing citizens whose mental condition may pose a threat to the rest of the community. It would be far too easy for the state to declare someone as a threat without much recourse. The medical associates who were to assess Raub have not released any reports they may have made, and I doubt they will…
